Milos: the never endless blue island

Back home a week after my last trip to Greece, I still have my heart full of love. I've been dreaming
for a long time about visiting the islands of this Mediterranean country that make me think all the time of the film Mamma Mia! Who has never dreamed of getting married in an all white and blue island at the rhythm of "Dancing Queen"?
So with the songs of Abba looping in my Iphone I leave Brussels to discover another place of Greece.
If last October I had visited Missolonghi, in the Western Greece, this time I headed towards Milos and Mykonos, in the Cycladic archipelago.
Greece can be visited 365 days a year, because whatever you expect from your next trip you will be satisfied. But in my opinion June is the best time to go if you are looking for quiet place, temperate weather and very affordable prices.

Milos is a Greek island located in the Aegean Sea on the half way to Athens and Crete and forming part of the Cycladic archipelago. It can also be called "Milo" because it is on this island that the famous Aphrodite of Milo was found (exhibited today at the Louvre Museum - Paris)
It is an island of volcanic origin, as evidenced by its mining (sulfur, manganese, bentonite). It is well known for having 76 beaches among the most beautiful of all Greece.
Our ferry arrives at 2am in the port of Adámas, a modern village nowadays a well equipped seaside area with hotels.
Even if the night has already fallen for a long time, Gina awaits us with her sigarette and welcomes us like we always knew each other. She will be our guide during our stay on the island. It is she who will make us know the more authentic corners of Milos. After having lived in several countries of the world (Germany, United States, France etc.) she decided to return to the island where she spent her childhood.
We immediately realize that here calm and entertainment coexist in perfect balance.
Several restaurants and bars are located by the sea and the offer for accommodation is abundant.
Fresh fish, lobster and octopus served in the restaurants and in the ouzeries always come from the morning fishing.

The first day, when we were going to discover Klima, Gina stopped her car in front of the Navagio Restaurant. Kidding with Manolis Karamitsos, the owner of the Navagio Restaurant, she used the excuse that we were two pretty girls, and so she arranged our first dinner in this lovely restaurant :-D
I highly recommend the Navagio. This renowned Restaurant is located by the sea with a sophisticated atmosphere and specialized in fish. You will have a chance to taste lobster with pasta, sea food spaghetti, fresh sea urchins and much more. We were spoiled by Chef Konstantinos Papaioannou because we were able to taste 7 different dishes and all fish based of course. It was fresh, delicious and very original. Every dish was served with a different Greek wine.

Pláka, the capital of Milos in the north of the island, offers a magnificent view of the sea. You will be under the charme of the typical Cycladic architecture: narrow alleys, white houses and flowered balconies.
The area at the top of the capital is called Kastro, from here you will have a magnificent view.

Sarakiniko is a very well known beach located in the north of the island. The winds coming from the north have "carved" the white volcanic rocks giving them a unique shape. The beach looks like the moon landscape.
I recommend going there very early in the morning or just before sunset.

Pollonia, which is northeast of Milos, is a charming very typical little fishing village . Here you will find everything for an unforgettable Greek vacation. It is the city that offers the most choice in terms of accommodation. We had the chance to meet Giorgios Alkéos, a famous Greek singer, ranked 8th at Eurovision 2010. He is now the owner of the Hôtel Salt. It is a luxury hotel overlooking the sea with only 9 rooms and a unique charm. Here the design is minimalist and everything is white. You will not want to leave.

For dinner I recommend the Rifaki Restaurant by the sea and with a very charming decoration. We were warmly welcomed by the owner who pampered us with a very special dinner. Here you will find seafood and Greek dishes to die for as they are really good and fresh.
He was even convinced that my sister was so beautiful that she should work in Greek television. Ah these Greek men.... and then they talked about the Italian seducers man  ;-)

Only 4km from Pollonia is Mandrakia, a small fishing village with typical colors.

Not far from Mandrakia you will find the pretty beach of  Firopotamos, also called natural pool. It owes this name to the shape of the bay that reminds one of a natural pool. Inside this bay many fisherman lives.

Paliochori (that means old town) it's a beautiful long beach in the southeast of Milos only 10km from Adamas. The most impressive is the western part, where behind the beach are high, colorful rocks. On the beach there is a bar, a water sports center and sun beds and umbrellas can be hired.
This beach it's really well organized but the most impressive thing about Paliochori beach are the red, yellow, brown and white volcanic rocks located behind the beach. Volcanic activity, thousands of years ago, has clearly left its mark.

We spent our lunch here by eating at the Sirocco restaurant, run by Stella, which offers excellent traditional cuisine. The veranda extends all along the beach to leave you a wonderful view. But the unique thing about this restaurant is that it offers "volcanic" dishes. In fact the temperature of 102 ° C of the sand allows to be able to cook the food in a special oven. It can be said that it is slow food.
The menu is very varied and you will have the choose between: fish, sheep, beef and pork, as well as typical dishes and desserts.

If an island must always be visited entirely, above all, it must be seen by the sea. An excursion or a day by boat is a "must do".
Thanks to Gina and Milos Adventures we spent half day discovering Milos from the sea. The sun is not out but the island is beautiful with unique shapes and colors so different between them. I'm breathless and I'm really happy to be here.
We make three stops during which you can swim if you want or just take pictures.
The second stop was my favorite, we leave the boat to join a hidden cave that reminds me of the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean" :-)
The last stop is, normally, the most loved by tourists. I'm talking about the Kleftiko Beach, which was once a famous Pirates Bay and this time it's not a movie.
When the sun is shining the color of the water is so clear that you get the impression that the boats are floating. It's amazing!

In the next article you will discover in which hotel we stayed.

ocean side it's all around efficient Buy A Custom Essay however the most noteworthy thing about Paliochori ocean side are the red, yellow, brown and white volcanic rocks situated behind the ocean side. Volcanic action, millennia prior, has obviously made some meaningful difference.
