A month ago I went on a press trip to Boulogne-Sur-Mer. It was the first time and I really enjoyed it. This city of art and history it's really close to the Channel Tunnel in the heart of the Opal Coast and only a 3-hours drive from Brussels.

Our first day is dedicated to Nausicaa, National Sea Center, is much more than a normal aquarium. Nausicaa is a center of discovery of the unique marine environment because they use a playful, pedagogical and scientific approach. Here you can see the large pools with sharks, penguins and all sorts of fish but you will also find films, temporary exhibitions, conferences etc.
The center is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, so it is the perfect time to visit.
Count an entire day for the visit of Nausicaa because it is very big. The five continents are represented and shows are organized throughout the day.
The most magical moment was surely at the end of the day when we were able to visit the behind the scenes of the sea lions and see how they works in a pedagogical way.

During the afternoon we were able to discover the old part of Boulogne-Sur -Mer which witnesses a past rich in history marked by the presence of the Romans, the English and Napoleon. This richness is clearly visible in the 12th century Belfry, which is the symbol of communal liberation.
The Basilica of Notre-Dame was built between 1827 and 1866 by the Abbe Haffreingue on the ruins of the old cathedral, destroyed after the Revolution.
Just below the Basilica there is the Crypt of the Basilica. I really loved this place. I find that there is magic and a little of mysterious in here. There are enormous halls and galleries that extend beneath the entire surface of the Basilica. It is also an archaeological site testifying to the Roman origins of Boulogne. The site was restored in May 2015.
If we continue we find ourselves in front of the Town Hall, the only monument to have been built of stone and brick. Every year from June to November the garden just in front of the Town Hall are decorated according to a theme.

Just after this beautiful moment in contact with the nature we continue towards Wissant, a small fishing village between Cap Gris-Nez and Blanc-Nez.
It is the last village where the fishermen sell the fruit of their fishing to the local and the tourists.
We made a pleasant walk along the path of the painters
