You know very well mu love for the islands. So when I received an invitation for a press trip in Northern Corsica I was really pleased.
You can of course go to Corsica by plane from Zaventem, but there is another means of transport which will make you better appreciate the richness and the variety of the landscapes of the French territory.
From Gare du Midi, SNCB offers 2-3 daily connections by TGV to Marseille. The trip only takes 5 hours. Once the tickets purchased on the website, you can decide to print them or save them on your smartphone. I advise you to look at their site quiete often because specials discounts are also available in certain periods.
In the TGV a restaurant is available to travellers, which made my trip even more enjoyable. The train arrived perfectly in time. Our trip was excellent.
Once in Marseille, the port is only two metro stops away. If you arrive a little bit in advance, you will have the pleasure to hava a walk in the mall right next to the port and you will be able to admire your second way of transport: the boat of Corsica Linea.

This regional shipping company ensures the transport of passengers and also goods between Marseille and Corsica. The ports of Ajaccio, Bastia, Ile-Rousse and Porto-Vecchio are served daily. But Corsica Linea also offers ferries to Sardinia, Algeria and Tunisia.
On board of the Pascal Paoli, we are ready to leave Marseille around 7PM.

It's time to rest a bit, the arrival in Bastia is scheduled at 7:30am, we will get up early. I can't wait to admire a sunrise in the middle of the sea :-)
The alarm sounds very early but a sunrise is always a good reason to get up. But before, we have time to take a breakfast. It is served as a buffet in the same dining room. Pastries, charcuterie, fruits, yogurt and Corsica products such as Nuciola and chestnut cream and hot drinks are available. Of course, the use of the restaurant is not mandatory. Each passenger is free to go there or bring his own food. on the ferry. A bar is also present in the ferry and a shop for those who want to do some shopping. Just the time to admire the sunrise and we are in the port of Bastia.
We are welcomed by the Tourist Office of Bastia and the guide who will accompany as during our stay.
We begin our visit by the Place Saint-Nicolas, a meeting place for the Bastians who find themselves in the many bars and restaurants that houses the place. It takes the name of a Church and an old hospital built in these places in the Middle Ages. A break in one of the cafes is a must do:-) I find the center of Bastia very charming and with many similarities with Italian architecture. The old port is without doubt one of the most beautiful parts of the city. There are many restaurants offering local fish, seafood and more.

Even if after a so delicious meal a nap would have been the right answer, we continue to the Parc Galea. This nine-hectare park is home to multimedia museums, exhibition galleries, screening rooms and landscaped gardens that will help you discover the heritage of Corsica with your family. The part I prefer is probably the garden that brings together a huge collection of cactus. Entrance fee 8€ for adults; 4€ from 6 to 20 years old; free for children under 6.
